Monarch Racing February Update
Team Updates
In mid-February, the full team converged in Northern California for a packed 3-day team camp. We spent a day with professional strength & conditioning coach Martin Susskind learning about periodized strength and conditioning for cyclists, and a day with professional skills coach Ian Massey learning how to be safer, faster riders. We also spent many hours with our two team directors, Nate English and Roman Kilun. They both joined for our century ride in Marin, and led sit-down discussions about nutrition and tactics & strategy.
Thank you to our host houses Paul & Diane, and Anastasia, for letting cyclists run (ride?) rampant with you for a long weekend!
Community Events
Lots of events have been happening and are in the works for 2024!
Sofia Schugar led a women’s gear exchange & social ride down in Encinitas, CA in early January. All of us know how expensive cycling apparel & equipment can be, and removing one barrier to this sport such as clothing can make a big difference for new and existing cyclists. And, who doesn’t love a new kit?
Helena Gilbert-Snyder led her 2nd year of the Low Gap Grasshopper U19 mentorship event, which was covered by Velo News (pre-event article & post event article) and GCN (pre-event article). Stay tuned for a mini-film about the event!
In one week, Helena Gilbert-Snyder will be leading a sit-down discussion for U19 girls about women’s health & training - topics such as menstruation cycles, hormones, strength & endurance training, and everything in-between will be on the table!
Stay tuned for a ride led by Amy Gammelgard in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as Claudia Ferreira leading volunteer efforts at gravel races in Michigan!
Keep up to date on events on our Community Events page here!
These events are made possible thanks to our generous sponsors & supporters such as you who allow us to provide free programming for these juniors from your financial and product contributions.
