Monarch Racing Quarterly Update

Team News

The road racing season is heavily skewed towards the springtime, and the last three months have been packed.

In April, junior Sophia Avery won the inaugural Redlands Bicycle Classic Jr. Women’s race, while in the Pro race our Elite team secured a 9th place in the GC for Annie Gilbert after five brutal days of racing. Later that month, Zoe Khuu won the Medio course at Levi’s Gran Fondo, and Hailey Reinhardt was 2nd on the amateur Growler Course (138 miles!).

In May, the Elite team traveled to one of the two UCI 2.2 races in the U.S. - Tour de Bloom, in Washington. Showing up with a vengeance, Dana Scott secured her first UCI Top 10, with a 10th place finish on Stage 3, while Claudia Ferreira also secured her first UCI Top 10, with a 9th place finish on Stage 4.

In June, we’re thrilled to share that two new California State Champions have come from our Development team - Olive Markman (15-16 Road Champion, and 15-16 Criterium Champion) and Fern Campbell (15-18 MTB Champion)! More California State Championship races are to come this summer, and we look forward to seeing more championship jerseys on our team.

The summer has a bit of a lull from national racing - riders on the Development and Elite teams will both be racing events on and off-road, but the next national team event will be Green Mountain Stage Race for the Elite team early this fall.

GU Energy x TerraCycle

An ongoing initiative this year encouraged by our sponsor Gu Energy, has been through TerraCycle. TerraCycle aims to “Recycle the Unrecyclable,” and this year our Development team has been collecting all those race fuel wrappers to recycle, instead of putting them in the trash!

Since this is a race team, we made it a competition, and our #1 recycler is Fern Campbell, who was able to collect an astounding 1,440 wrappers in just half the year!

We encourage everyone to check out TerraCycle and see what you can recycle that you might normally toss in the waste basket (or dumpster!).

Upcoming Community Event

Mark your calendars for the evening of Sunday, August 24th! We have a very exciting fundraiser dinner event planned, and more information (including a very special guest speaker!) will be shared shortly.
