Tour de l’Abitibi + Center of Excellence Award
Tour de l’Abitibi
Our junior riders recently returned from Quebec, Canada, where they competed in the Tour de l’Abitibi—a prestigious four-day UCI Jr. Nation's Cup road stage race. Facing over 24 hours of travel each way and lining up against top junior riders from across the globe, this was a massive step in our athletes' growth.
Despite being one of the youngest and most inexperienced teams in the field, our riders showed incredible courage, talent, and tactical adaptability throughout the week. One Stage 2, they secured an impressive 7th place finish in the international field, as well as our rider Jayce Cooper being recognized with the Most Courageous Rider award for her relentless efforts during the stage.
Unfortunately, racing at this level comes with tough moments. On Stage 1, just 1km from the finish, one of our riders was caught in a crash, sustaining a broken collarbone and a mild concussion. After an ER visit that lasted well into the early morning, she was discharged and remained a great teammate for the remainder of the race. She had surgery back home in California, she is well on the road to recovery.
The race commissaires and organizers noted how impressed they were with our team’s toughness and determination. It is intimidating to race at this level for the first time, but the riders held their nerves under control and showed marked improvement day-to-day, and we are extremely proud of each of them!
